From the Wicklow GAA Strategic Vision & Action Plan we note that Ashford GAA Club have 192 Registered Members while 44 are Adult Players and 83 are Juvenile Players. We also note that 340 boys and girls attend Na Coroine Muire NS in Ashford and 96 pupils attend Nuns Cross NS. Also mentioned is the fact that Ashford GAA Club were the first club to be established in Wicklow (May 1885) the first game took place in Ashford between Ashford and Dalkey Gaels. Now the Association in Wicklow have 39 Adult Clubs with 4,000 members. Under the heading of Club Planning we see that each club must have a Strategic Plan for the future, it is the responsibility of the County Board and each club to implement same, the target for 2012 would be that at least 10 clubs have their plan in place and by 2015 all 39 Clubs will be on board.

Well done to two of our players Aaron Nugent and Gavin Weir who have been selected on the County Minor Football Provisional Panel for 2012.

Wicklow GAA launches Strategic Vision & Action Plan 2011

Wicklow GAA launched their Strategic Vision & Action Plan 2011 – 2020 in Aughrim this week. Martin Skelly Chairman of Leinster Council announced the programme to more than 100 guests. A very elaborate booklet has been produced providing facts and figures and where we should be going over the next few years. Martin Coleman Vice Chairman of the County Board with his Committee have been working on this programme over the last 3 years. Unlike other plans that were launched over the years and then left to gather dust, this plan has one major difference in that each section will be reviewed annually. Under the heading of Games Schedule we see the need for a Fixtures Plan for all adult games each year with an agreed minimum number of games per year for each grade, it is the responsibility of the CCC to have this completed by 2012. This item is very important considering that Ashford did not play a league game for three months. Also we note that a Fixtures Plan for Coiste NOg as outlined in the Games Development Plan is required. It is the responsibility of the Fixture Planners to have this completed by 2012 to ensure that all competitions are run to a proper schedule.
