Ashford defeated Kilcoole in Kilcoole by 4-3 to 2-5 and take two valuable points in a very competitive game. Ashford were in control from the start, however with three minutes remaining found themselves one point in front with Kilcoole in control. Then up stepped Man of the Match Cormac Doyle to score a brilliant solo goal and finish with a personal tally of 3-2 and win the match for Ashford. Jamie Byrne was outstanding in defence. Daragh Connolly, Jamie Byrne, David Ivers Uishin Hill and Cian Marah also played well.

One goal and two points from in the second half from Rian Sweetman Burke gave Ashford a two point victory over Fergal Og at Ashford to-night. Ashford won 2-9 to 3-4 having been behind at half time 3-4 to 1-5. Ashford held Fergal Og scoreless in the second half. Rian Sweetman Burke had another good goal disallowed. Other Ashford scorers were Ross Quinn 1-2, Colm Doyle 0-3, Sean Duffy 0-1 and Jack Taylor 0-1. Colm Copeland was outstanding in goal making many excellent saves. In defence Jack Taylor, Mickey Traynor and Robert Clarkson played very well. Fergus Ward and Sean Duffy held their own at mid field while Ross Quinn, Colm Doyle, Rian Sweetman Burke and Conor Cunningham paved the way for this creditable victory.

Coiste Condae, Chill Mhantain CLG are delighted to announce a meet and greet evening with our senior inter county football and hurling stars.

This promises to be a memorable evening and an additional chance for the children of Wicklow to come along and meet their sporting heroes.

The National Football League Division 4 Cup will be there on the night so bring along your camera and get your photo taken.

After the match between Kilcoole and Ashford which ended in a draw 1-11 to 2-8, Shane Marah was heard to say that this game was better than 22 episodes of Coronation Street. How right he was 22 scores, 18 wides and plenty of goalmouth action. Ashford had reduced the arrears to one point by half time 1-5 to 1-4. Ashford were forced to field without Niall Mooney and Jay Taylor, before the start both Conor Behan an Joey Doyle failed late a fitness test. However Ashford gave a creditable performance having given the home team a 1-3 start. Aaron Nugent was top scorer with 6 points and also a strong contender for Man of the Match. The goals came from Tim Nairn and Dean Mooney while the other points were scored by Philip Doyle and Gavin Weir. Will Hender Phillips had a sound game in goal, Wes Manning, Ken O’Brien and Brian Fagan were solid in defence. Iarla O’Donnell in the half back line is improving with each game. Along with Aaron Nugent, both Gavin Weir and Philip Doyle were never found wanting.

Footnote: The referee Pat Dunne who had a very good game exercised his power on many occasions when he was challenged on awarding a free kick. He would move the ball forward at least 10 meters, both teams were guilty and both teams benefited.

Ashford played their first home match in this league and defeated Newtown by the narrowest of margins 2-8 to 1-10 having led 1-4 to 0-6 at half time. Ashford have full points from three games and are looking forward to their away fixture against Kilmac next week. Adrian Marah was top scorer with 1-3, the other goal was a brilliant solo effort scored by Daragh O’Donnell who had just entered the field of play as a sub. Paul Conyard was outstanding in goal, Mick Nolan, Brian Shannon and Paddy Shannon played well in defence. Danny Byrne, Gary Maguire, Dean Doyle and top scorer Adrian Marah were the pick of the forward line.
